Horn Swatter – Old Wives Ales

REVIEW:

Whilst I was trying to decide which stout to buy from the stout section of the fridge at Oldfield Cellars, I picked this one up and kept it purely because the description made me chuckle.

Here we go with Old Wives Ales Horn Swatter American Stout!

What they say: Blacker than Norwegian metal and smoother than the floors at the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, Horn Swatter is an American Stout that will keep you coming back for more.

This beer is rich and roasty with loads of dark chocolate and coffee flavours. Finished with a pants load of citrusy, fruity American hops, Horn Swatter is a fitting tribute to Ol’ Pa Brooks and the style of beer that would leave him happier than any other.

What I say: Pours very dark black with a nice tan head. The aroma and taste is very roasted malt, almost smoky. I love the rich dark chocolate and coffee flavors. There is a faint hint of citrusy fruity hoppiness, as the beer warmed I got more orange. A bit like a Black IPA only much much stoutier. Finishes off with a late bitterness. I quite like it

But what would I know? I’m just a guy that loves great beer 😊🍺
